Specifications are typical published figures for charter configurations. Hourly rates are indicative market averages, final pricing depends on routing, positioning and availability. This tool is a simulation for information purposes only — never use it for flight planning or aircraft operations. Ranges are manufacturer maximum-range figures: full fuel, typically 4–8 passengers and NBAA IFR reserves — a full cabin reduces range.

How to compare two private jets

New to private aviation? Spec sheets can be misleading if you read them in isolation. Here is what actually matters when you put two aircraft side by side.

The four numbers that decide it

  • Range with your passenger load. Published range assumes a light load. A jet quoted at 3,200 nm may fly closer to 2,900 nm with a full cabin, so keep a 10% margin over your longest planned sector.
  • Cabin height, not just length. Above roughly 1.75 m, most passengers can stand and move naturally. That single number changes how a 4-hour flight feels more than any seat count.
  • Hourly rate versus trip cost. A faster jet can close the gap: on a long sector, a super midsize that saves 25 minutes offsets part of its higher hourly rate against a midsize.
  • Runway performance. Some airports that matter, Saint-Tropez, Samedan, London City, have short runways. A smaller jet or turboprop sometimes gets you closer than a larger one.

What the comparison cannot show

Interior condition, Wi-Fi, galley equipment and crew experience vary aircraft by aircraft, not model by model. When two jets look equal on paper, your Elysium Jet advisor compares the actual tail numbers available for your dates.

Frequently asked questions

A light jet such as the Phenom 300E seats up to 7 passengers, flies about 2,000 nm and has a cabin around 1.5 m high, ideal for sectors under two hours. A midsize jet such as the Praetor 500 adds a stand-up cabin close to 1.8 m, seats up to 9 and flies over 3,000 nm, comfortable for 4 hours or more.
Both are super midsize benchmarks with flat-floor cabins. The Praetor 600 flies farther, around 4,000 nm versus 3,200 nm, while the Challenger 350 offers a slightly wider cabin and the largest fleet availability on the charter market. For transatlantic legs choose the Praetor 600; for availability and cabin width, the Challenger 350.
Heavy jets such as the Gulfstream G450 or Falcon 900LX fly 4,000 to 4,750 nm with 12 to 14 passengers. Ultra long range jets such as the Global 7500 or Gulfstream G700 fly 6,500 to 7,700 nm non-stop, with larger multi-zone cabins, full berths and crew rest for 14+ hour sectors.
Indicative market rates run from about €2,000-2,800 per flight hour for a turboprop, €3,000-4,000 for a light jet, €4,500-5,500 for a midsize, €6,500-7,000 for a super midsize, €8,000-10,000 for a heavy jet and €10,000-14,000 for an ultra long range jet. Final pricing depends on routing, positioning and availability.
Among purpose-built business jets, the Gulfstream G700 leads with a cabin 17.35 m long, 2.49 m wide and 1.91 m high, ahead of the Global 7500 at 16.59 m long. VIP airliners such as the Airbus ACJ or Boeing BBJ offer even larger cabins.
For 8 passengers on sectors under 2 hours, a midsize jet like the Citation XLS+ or Praetor 500 works well. For longer sectors or more luggage, step up to a super midsize such as the Challenger 350 or Praetor 600, which seat 10-12 with a wider, flat-floor cabin.
Yes, on sectors under 500 nm. A Pilatus PC-12 or King Air 350i costs roughly 30-40% less per hour than a light jet, uses shorter runways and, on a 45-minute hop, arrives only minutes later than a jet.
